In Armenia brandy is the most common gift: for an anniversary, for a boss, for business partners, for the groom's parents. A good choice comes down to three things: age, occasion and presentation.
Age
The longer a brandy has rested in an oak barrel, the softer and deeper its taste. A young one is fine at the table and in cocktails. For a gift, choose an aged brandy of 10 years or more.
After twenty years in oak a brandy darkens to deep amber and gathers notes of dried fruit, vanilla and chocolate. A thirty-year-old is opened for a special occasion and sipped slowly.
Occasion
For an anniversary, a milestone or deep gratitude, choose the oldest bottle in a case. For dinner or a visit to friends, a 700 ml bottle that will be opened with you is right.
Colleagues, wedding guests and welcome packs get 50 ml miniatures. A gesture of attention that asks nothing in return.
Presentation
A bottle in a box or case needs no wrapping: it is easy to carry and a pleasure to open. If the gift is from a company, add a card with a few words of your own. A long text is not needed.
A name, a date or a few words can be engraved on the glass, even on a single bottle. Put them together in the engraving studio and see how they sit on the bottle before you order.
What stays after the bottle
The bottle will be finished. It is good when something remains. Every TUFF cap is cut by hand from volcanic tuff, and people keep it on a desk or a shelf as a piece of Armenia.
